Telephone Nursing takes many forms. It can be an organized Call Center of nurses, or a single nurse on the telephone. All nursing specialties do it to some extent. Telephone Triage Nursing is a term used for a well-known group within the ranks of Telephone Nurses.
But telephone triage is just a part of what we do. There are opportunities in areas such as special needs programs, health awareness, community outreach, university health, and case management (include disease management) -- to name just a few. TeleNurses may use additional monitoring devices such as the EKG or fetal monitors to enhance assessment and their practice. The Internet is also a way to reach out to patients via the telephone.
If you do a large part of your nursing practice using a telephone you most certainly have something to contribute to and learn from the Telephone Nursing Telezine.
