Florida is a beautiful state located in the southeast corner of the United States. Named by Ponce de Leon in 1513, Florida was granted statehood in 1845. Floridians enjoy a mild climate, a great deal of citrus fruit, and the joy of watching the gentle manatee glide through some of their waterways. They also share their fine state with the American alligator, the Florida cougar and panther, and countless coachroaches.

Interesting among the habits of a Floridian is the tendency to call anyone who lives north of Tallahassee a "Yankee". And they don't want to know how you "do it up north" either. During the winter, large hordes of northerners temporarily move to Florida for several months to escape the cold. These invaders are referred to as "snowbirds" versus "tourists" who only come to visit Disney or Busch Gardens and then go right back home in a week or two.

Southern hospitality is alive and well in Florida, and whether you just visit here or make it your home, you are sure to find the weather and hospitality in Florida a delight.
