Searching the WWW for information can be a joy if you have the right sites to select from. Using a search engine can be a quick way to gain access to any information or topics that you desire. Below are my personal favorites.

Feel free to "bookmark" this site if you find it helpful. This page is intended as a resource for visitors.

All-in-One Internet Search - this site is a compilation of search engines from around the net. Very good, especially if you are interested in "one stop" searching.

Alta Vista Web Index - ONE OF MY PERSONAL FAVORITES from Digital Equipment Corp, this fast and thorough search engine should not be bypassed. 16 million web pages and over 13,000 newsgroup searches accessible here. Their advanced query options are superb! Do visit!

AOL Netfind - great search site and index page from America OnLine

America Online Member Home Page - searching for a home page known to be on America OnLine (AOL)? This is a good place to start.

Beaucoup - A searchable site for ZINES or electronic magazines.

Best o' c.i.w.announce - check out the best picks from the new URL announcement newsgroup.

BRS Ultimate Search Page - collection of search engines at a single site.

Cosmic Motherload - a metasearch type engine, with choices like the "insane" search.

DejaNews Research- want to find specific messages in all newsgroups (Usenet)? This is definitely the place to start. With the right browser, you can even immediately reply to pertinent messages. A quality site.

eDirectory - listing of search sites OUTSIDE of the U.S.

Excite - exceptional database of over 1.5 million pages. Search their reviews, web pages, Usenet and classifieds. Can use either keywords or "concept" words. Nice feature is a "confidence level" (in per cent) that it has made a good match for you.

Four11 Online User Directory - White pages database with over 4.6 million listings. Search by first name, last name and domain. If you know someone is on the Internet but don't know their email address, try here!

Galaxy - from Tradewave, both a searchable and topic listed resource to web pages.

Global Network Navigator (GNN) - includes the Whole Internet Catalogue of best sites to visit, GNN News for latest web sites, Reuters news feed, sports network and more.

Global On-Line Directory - a news and directory service. Free advertising database (searchable) and open news service (listing).

HotBot - uses Inktomi's search engine

Imperative! - allows you to see if a company has an Internet presence, or just locate a specific domain server. Searching by name, city, state or zip code.

Information Super Library - Includes a bookstore, reference, search engine, software library, yellow pages and more. Home of MacMillan Computer Publishing. An award winning site.

InfoSeek Query - powerful search engine with both a free and professional option.

infospace - a comprehensive directory of the Internet. Find people and businesses using their telephone directory. Yellow pages and "blue" pages of government listings. Also toll-free numbers.

InReference - using Stanford's filtering service [SIFT], this site allows access to more than 16,000 newsgroups and nearly 1000 mailing lists. Filters out only those messages you want, and sends them to you via email. Gotta check out this site if you read usenet or listservs!

InterLinks - a free and public service, resources including several search engines, guides and tutorials, library and research lins, plus they recently added a Perpetual Calendar with daily facts for your amusement.

InterNic Directory and Database Service - an index of pointers to Internet resources, white pages section, public-access databases, Internet related documents and more. The place to register any new domains (like yourname.org).

IPL - The Internet Public Library - includes a reference section, youth and teen areas, classrooms and exhibits.

Link Monster - Website search and announcement directory.

Liszt - a searchable directory of e-mail discussion groups or LISTSERVS.

Lycos : The Catalog of the Internet - rated #1 in hits and relevancy in PC World Magazine Jan '96, this is definitely a heavy-hitting search engine. Recently teamed up with Point Communications to make this an incredible site to visit.

Magellan - McKinley's Internet Directory. Search by keywords with options of # of results/page, length of description, low/high ratings and excluding sites for mature audiences. Includes both "reviewed" (ratings) and unreveiwed sites.

Mailing List WWW Gateway - access mailing lists and archives via this helpful site!

MetaCrawler - sends your queries to nine different search engines. Has an advanced search syntax.

NandO.net - includes a news and information service, sports server, entertainment section, and information related to North Carolina.

Nerd World Media Internet Subjects - a category tree system of locating Internet resources. Includes both leisure and knowledge categories.

NewsLetter Library - collection of newsletters around the Internet

NlightN Home Page - searchable database that includes Internet resources PLUS a wide assortment of news and scientific databases, including private ones. Searches are free, but proprietary texts have a charge (usually nominal) which you need an account for. Great resource diverse resources OR specific texts and books! Don't miss it!

Open Text Index - Claims to search every word on every WWW page on the Internet. Simple, power, or weighted searches.

Pointers to Pointers - lists to places you can advertise your URL's on the Internet.

Postmaster2 - Announce your URL's everywhere (or at least to several hundred search engines and directories. Great site.

SavvySearch - an experimental search engine located at Colorado State, this site should not be bypassed when looking for an Internet resource. Gathers information from over 20 other search engines.

Scott Yarnoff's Internet Services List - an organized listing of web resources organized by subject headings. Includes telnet and ftp sites with logins, which are sometimes difficult to find. Can't find it anywhere else? Make sure you check this one out!

Search The Net - Adrian Dorn's massive collection of links to search engines and resource sites all over the world. Some are very specific and may suit your needs when unable to find desired information elsewhere.

Starting Point - a metasearch site providing searching capability in other search engines.

StudyWeb - a search engine geared for people doing research.

Switchboard - a free nationwide residential and business directory.

The Internet Sleuth - a collection of over 900 searchable databases on the Internet, or browse by category.

The LIST - Internet Service Providers - allows search for "Internet provider" sites by name/domain. Once had comments/reviews of sites from users, but this feature has been removed. Does give "how to contact" information.

The Mother-of-all BBS - a collection of home pages from universities, companies, government, announcements, etc. Listed by topic(s), this is a rambling area but may contain the web site you are looking for.

Tile.Net - Looking for a mailing list, newsgroup, computer product vendor, or ftp site? This site specializes in these searches.

TIME Worldwide - access articles from TIME magazine, read the TIME Daily, or search for your favorite topic in their diverse magazine section, Pathfinder.

Tribal Voice - this site includes a global community of "PowWow" users, a review area, searchable index of Internet resources, and a place to post/read "happenings". A "must visit" site!

USA CityLink Project - a comprehensive listing of WWW resources featuring US cities and states. Includes a "relocation service" if you want to be contacted by a realtor in your desired location.

USENET Addresses - MIT - search for email addresses if you know the name of the person or organization. Checked USENET postings for possible matches.

WebCrawler - the "lightning fast" web search tool. Descriptions are lean but this is definitely one of the fastest search tools I've used!

Webula - over 5,000 entries in the "tree type" web resource locator service. Nice place for browsing!

Web Voyager Main Menu - includes a WEBDEX, and their magazine called WebWorld.

What's New Too! - over 500 new announcements every day. Looking for a new page? Check here.

WhoWhere? - Looking for a person on the net? This site allows you to search by name and organization. Great when trying to locate a friend or associate with an email address. Includes a relevancy legend and will give you "close to" matches too.

World Wide News- online newspaper format that allows you to "talk back". Divided into general categories for browsing.

Yahoo - probably the best web "browsing" aid. Topics are seperated in categories and subcategories that allow you to easily search for interesting links. Includes access to Reuters Headlines and stories, and a "just launched" section. You have to check this site out.
